Tata Motors' Jaguar Land Rover has reported record April retail sales.

The tally of 41,341 vehicles was up 11%  year on year and April was the company's fourth consecutive record-breaking month. Year to date volume rose 24% to 200,154.

April sales were up year-on-year across all regions: 25% in the UK, 11% in China, 10% in Europe and 2% in North America. Other overseas markets rose 5%.

Group sales operations director Andy Goss said: "This is a positive start to our second quarter sales and continues the growth trend seen in the first three months of the year. Sales of the Jaguar XE remain solid across many of our key markets and we look forward to its start of sales in America next month. Response to the new F-Pace in its first full month of sales has been extremely positive. We are also seeing the progressive impact of the Discovery Sport with approaching 44,000 cars sold in the first four months of this year."

Land Rover retailed 33,348 vehicles in April, up 4% year-on-year. Best sellers for the month were the Discovery Sport, with 9,422 vehicles sold, and the Evoque, with 8,293 shifted. Year-to-date sales for the brand rose 19% to 162,307.

Jaguar April deliveries were up 49% to 7,993 due to continued solid sales of the XE. YTD volume rose 53% to 37,847. 

After selling 1,500 F-Pace in April, Jaguar said the new "family sports car is now the fastest selling Jaguar ever".
