A Fiat union maintains it is “not optimistic” concerning tomorrow’s (26 November) meeting in Turin to discuss the future of the Mirafiori plant.
The Fiom labour organisation says the manufacturer should discuss the whole of the Fiat situation and not just the Mirafiori factory.

“Our attitude is not very optimistic, although maybe we will be very happy to be wrong,” a Fiom spokesman in Rome told just-auto.
“As you may easily understand, [for] our CGIL confederation the right thing to do should be to have a national meeting in which to discuss Fiat’s plans for the whole company.”
Fiom suggests Fiat may only want to talk about the Mirafiori bodywork section employing around 5,500 workers, without discussing engine production with 5,000 workers.
Fiat however, has expressed its “complete readiness” to hold talks on the Mirafiori site’s future in Turin tomorrow with all the trade unions.
Fiom added it wanted the talks to include Fiat’s plans for future model production and where this would talk place.
Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said last month it would invest EUR20bn (US$26.7bn) in Italy if it could secure more labour flexibility at five Italian car factories – although he added that collectively they could not match the productivity of Fiat’s single Polish plant.
“Fiat would do more if it took Italy out from its results. We cannot continue to manage operations at a loss forever,” he said.
