Fiat has confirmed its chief executive Sergio Marchionne will head Chrysler after its bankruptcy procedure and alliance with the Italian automaker are completed.

“Marchionne will be the new chief executive of Chrysler after the procedure,” a spokesman said.
Current Chrysler chief Robert Nardelli said earlier he would stay only to oversee the bankruptcy process.
In mid-April, Marchionne said it was “possible” that he would head both companies, news agency AFP noted.
“Fundamentally, that’s possible, but the title isn’t important. What’s important is that they hear me at Chrysler,” Marchionne told Toronto’s Globe and Mail newspaper. “It’s possible that I will have to divide my time between running Fiat and running Chrysler,” he added.

By GlobalDataChrysler’s new board of directors, which will have six members chosen by the US government and three by Fiat, is expected to name an American chairman, press reports have said.
Marchionne is following the example of Carlos Ghosn, who heads both Renault and Nissan and was today named chairman, president and CEO of the Renault Group after chairman Louis Schweitzer stepped down.
