Fiat’s Pomigliano plant workers have voted to back a plan to increase labour flexibility in return for investment to keep the plant open, but question marks remain over whether the Fiat money will come.
Some 62% of the plant’s workers who voted this week backed Fiat’s proposal to raise productivity by making working shifts more flexible, restricting strikes and limiting benefits such as sick days.

Italy’s labour minister also said that Fiat should be happy with the referendum result.
However, analysts noted that Fiat may deem the result as not sufficient to justify upgrading the Pomigliano (near Naples) plant and moving production of the next Panda model from Poland.
Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne had demanded unions’ unanimous backing.
