Fiat union FIOM says it will “suspend judgement” concerning a planned takeover of Fiat’s Termini Imerese plant by seven different companies as the automaker looks to exit its Sicilian operation.
The Italian economics ministry is due to ink a deal in Rome tomorrow (16 February) that should see the seven firms – including two automotive operations – move in to the Sicily site helped by EUR450m (US$608m) in government grants.

A meeting last night in Rome with economic development minister Paolo Romani and the Sicilian regional government, was also attended by FIOM’s industry secretary Vincenzo Scudiere, although the union representative was not there in a bargaining capacity.
“At the end of the meeting, Scudiere said more or less he will suspend judgement,” a FIOM spokesman told just-auto. “We have to remark this money is not so big.
“Of course we hope this may be the right choice, but we don’t know enough. We don’t know when FIOM will make its judgement, maybe tomorrow.”
