Fiat’s share of Italian new car sales climbed back above 28% in October from a historic low of 27.2% in September, a motor industry source told Reuters.
Italy’s Transport Ministry is due to release car registration data on Wednesday and the source reportedly said total car sales would come in at 190,000 vehicles, flat on October 2002 when Fiat won 29.2% of the Italian market.
Reuters said Fiat is hoping that two new mass market models that hit showrooms in September will revive sales which have fallen sharply over the last two years, dragging Italy’s largest industrial group into its worst-ever crisis.
