In anticipation of the launch of the Fiat 500 in 2007, Fiat has launched an internet marketing project known as “500 wants you”.

Fiat describes the project as having the single aim of involving the public in “planning the evolution of Italy’s most popular runabout.”


The project will start out as a huge on-line laboratory, where consumers can make suggestions that may ‘possibly’ be used in the actual development of the project. There will be a ‘configuration lab’ where users will be able to play around with a concept design and record their ideas.


There will also be a design competition organised in collaboration with an independent web magazine for the design world, Designboom.


“For the first time in the history of our company, and perhaps of the motor industry as a whole, a car will be created with the public and for the public,” said Luca De Meo, brand and commercial manager for Fiat.
