Fiat claimed 28.2-28.3% of Italy’s new car sales in April, which totalled between 208,000 and 209,000, a car sector source told Reuters. In March this year, Fiat had a 28.7% share of Italian new car sales which totalled 250,500.

Italy’s transport ministry is due to announce April’s car sales figures on Wednesday, the report noted.


In April 2003, the Turin-based carmaker had a 28.8% share of 182,800 new car sales which were down nearly 6% year-over-year after the government ended a programme of incentives for consumers to buy new cars, the news agency said.


Fiat, which also owns the Lancia and Alfa Romeo brands, is aiming for a 30-32% share of its home market as it tries to tackle a financial crisis by selling new models, Reuters noted.
