Citing an unnamed source at the company, the report said that Fiat’s engine plant in the Adriatic town of Termoli was closed for two weeks following heavy rainfall that flooded the shop floor where the ‘fire’ engine is manufactured.

The ‘fire’ engine is fitted to the Panda, Punto and Stilo models and the source told Reuters that although production has now re-started, it would be another few weeks before it cab get back to full strength.

Reuters adds that the engine supply problems have delayed the reopening of the Termini Imerese plant in Sicily, which has been temporarily closed as part of Fiat Auto’s restructuring plan.
