The weakness of the Italian car market this year reflects low growth in the economy and an austerity budget outlook to public finances.

Fiat Group’s market share rose to 31.4% in April from just 26% in March 2012, as the company recovered from the effects of a car transporters’ strike in Italy. However, Fiat Group’s sales – at 40,745 units were some 11.8% off last year in April.
