New cars deliveries in the Israel were up 10.9% against last year in Q1. The increase came in spite of growing concerns over the slowdown of the Israeli economy and the Palestinian uprising. Import deliveries totaled 44,746 (includes private cars, light commercial vehicles and SUVs). Deliveries in the month of March were 16,089 vehicles, about 20% up from the month before. The increase in March is explained by strong advance purchasing by rental companies renewing their fleets before the Passover, which begins this Sunday. This effect will mean that April sales will be low.

Mazda was the leading brand during Q1 but Volkswagen has closed the gap in second place. Mazda delivered about 5,400 units, with VW on 5,000 units.
