Renault is considering launching a variant of the low-cost Kwid model in Iran, Renault-Nissan alliance vice president Gerard Detourbet said.

“This kind of car could be a good match for the (Iranian) market. We have already presented the car to people, and they are interested. But between the interest and the decision to do it, there is still some time,” Detourbet told Reuters.

According to just-auto‘s PLDB, the model was revealed to the media in May 2015 and will go on sale from the second half of the year. It is the first production vehicle for the Alliance’s CMF-A platform. The small crossover is, for now, exclusive to India where it has a standard 800cc, three-cylinder petrol engine.

Cheap touches include single wiper, no rear wash/wipe, just three nuts to secure each wheel, and an old-fashioned roof-mounted antenna. The car also lacks ABS and ESP. A driver’s airbag is only standard in the higher-priced model grades.
