IKCO says its vehicle production rose by almost 180% between 21 March and 21 June 2014, the first quarter of the Iranian calendar year.
The state owned car maker, which is continuing to enjoy the benefits of a slight easing of sanctions on the Islamic Republic, has been able to lift capacity at all of its domestic car and light commercial production plants.

The vehicles produced in this period are list by IKCO as follows: 28,588 units of the Pars, 21,531 Samands, 21,318 units of the Peugeot 405 and 17,775 units of the 206, 7,704 Runna sedans, 3,778 Renault Tondars and 35 units of the soon to be launched Dena, as well as 19,283 units of Bardo, the latter a pick-up based on the Hillman Hunter.
Last year IKCO produced 43,204 passenger cars and pick-ups which were, the company notes, 76,808 units shy of the production in this year’s spring. The company’s daily production rate has also reached 2,200 vehicles and this, the firm says, will “accelerate to 2,500 sets soon”.
IKCO is working towards a production target of 600,000 cars “by the end of this year”. In the previous Iranian calendar year, the total was just 365,090 but 444,000 in the prior year.
