Iran Khodro says it will begin building a hatchback version of its Runna small sedan from early in 2014. The company insists in a statement that this Peugeot 206-based model has been designed “without any help from foreign sources”.
The Runna hatchback will initially be powered by a 1.6-litre engine, Seyed Ahmad Modir Ghomi, the manager of engineering department, is quoted as saying. Later, it will become available with the IKCO EF7 engine as well.

Of total Runna production, some 30 percent is expected to be for the hatchback, with the remainder taken up by the existing sedan.
IKCO plans to produce the hatchback in Belarus, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Syria, Senegal and Venezuela as well as at Iran’s domestic production plants. The company intends to export the car to the Middle East and West of Asia, Russia and CIS region countries, West and North Africa and South America.
