Hossein Najari, IKCO vice-president of production, said the company would produce at least 120,000 EF7 engines by the end of this Iranian calendar year – 20 March, 2013.
The EF7 is made in bi-fuel, petrol and diesel versions – 70% are made for CNG fuel.
IKCO said it had “gained the latest technologies in powertrain production during the process of designing and developing” the EF7 engine and localisation of cylinder blocks and heads for IKCO-brand engines would take daily production to 700 sets.
In 2010 and 2011, IKCO produced 25,000 and 65,000 EF7 engines, 70% of which were for CNG.
“The intellectual property of the EF7 belongs to IKCO,” the automaker said, adding it also makes turbocharged, petrol and diesel versions.
Najari said IKCO was now “90 percent self-relied in production” of TU5 fuel-efficient engines and was cooperating with SAPCO (Supplying Automotive Part Co.) to reach 100%.
