Innoviz Technologies has collaborated with Volkswagen Autonomous Mobility to integrate the InnovizTwo LiDAR units into the ID. Buzz AD, VW’s L4 autonomous shuttle in 2025.

The move is expected to fast-track the integration of InnovizTwo LiDAR units, enhancing the shuttles’ capabilities for planned commercial operations in European and US cities from 2026.

The partnership’s expansion is bolstered by Innoviz’s recent collaboration with Fabrinet for mass production of the LiDAR platform.

The start of production is scheduled for next year, aligning with Volkswagen’s commercialisation strategies.

Innoviz and Volkswagen’s strengthened relationship is marked by the successful integration of InnovizTwo LiDARs into the ID. Buzz AD, which will feature nine units per vehicle.

This configuration provides 360° sensing coverage, crucial for safe navigation in urban settings.

Volkswagen Autonomous Mobility CEO Christian Senger said: “We are excited to continue our work with Innoviz, improving the autonomous performance of our vehicle fleet. Innoviz’s ability to provide best-in-class LiDAR at various ranges allows us to efficiently provide reliable and safe solutions for our customers.”

Innoviz Technologies CEO and co-founder Omer Keilaf added: “This is a proud moment for Innoviz as we further our collaboration with Volkswagen Autonomous Mobility. This integration of Long-Range and Short- to Mid-Range LiDAR units demonstrates a shared commitment with VW to accelerate AV adoption and our ability to meet the most stringent and varied requirements of automotive OEMs worldwide.”

Also, in April, Volkswagen’s autonomous division, ADMT, has teamed up with Uber to roll out a fleet of electric, self-driving ID. Buzz AD vehicles across the US starting in Los Angeles.

Trials will kick off later this year, with the service going live in Los Angeles in 2026.
