The September figure consisted of 23,248 passenger cars and 10,860 commercial vehicles – mainly trucks and pick-ups.
Toyota recorded particularly strong growth, according to Xinhua news agency, with sales of the all new Camry up 400%, giving it over 50% share of the medium-class sedan market, estimated at 1,722 units.,
Multi-purpose vehicles were the largest segment, accounting for 21,405 units, up 23.3% month on month.
Vehicle sales in Indonesia this year have been running well below last year’s levels. To the end of July, sales were down 50% on a year ago, with 149,200 vehicles sold, compared to 293,960 in the first seven months of 2005, a strong year, when sales reached 530.000 units, up 26% compared with 422,099 units the previous year.
