New vehicle sales in Indonesia increased by 6% to 109,706 units in June, from 103,520 units in the same month of last year, according to data gathered by Indonesia automotive industry association Gaikindo.

The approaching annual Idul Fitri holidays, which are brought forward by around one month each year, helped lift the market last month – according to local industry insiders.

Low-cost green cars and new models such the Honda Mobilio are also helping to stimulate demand, offsetting the recent slowdown in economic growth and higher interest rates.

Cumulative sales for the first half of the year increased by 6.7% to 641,511 units, from 601,200 units in the same period of last year.
