The Indonesian vehicle market is estimated to have declined by 20% to 46,000 units in August, according to provisional data released by local distributor PT Toyota Astra Motor.
The August decline was less than in previous months, helped in part by the approaching annual Idul Fitri holidays. On a month-on-month basis, the market is showing an improving trend, with sales rising by 5.6% compared with July’s 43,548 units and almost 30% higher than the 35,455-unit monthly average of the first half of the year.
PT Toyota Astra Motor sold a total of 18,145 vehicles in August, 7% less than a year earlier. Its most popular model was the Avanza with 9,115 sales, followed by the Innova with 3,715 units.
