Vehicle sales in Indonesia fell by 3.7% to 67,746 units in June, from 70,388 units a year earlier, according to data released by the automotive industry association Gaikindo.
This figure represents a marked improvement on the 61,055 units sold in May however, reflecting improving supplies as Japanese vehicle manufacturers repair their component supply-chains.

Cumulative first-half sales amounted to 415,276 units – 12% higher than 370,214 units sold in the same period of 2010. The association now forecasts full-year sales to reach 830,000 units, with key Japanese automakers restoring normal operations in the second half of the year.
“Overall, the disruption from the Japanese earthquake in March to Indonesia’s automotive industry has not been significant”, said Gaikindo deputy chairman Jongkie Sugiarto. “Only second quarter sales are expected to be moderately lower”.
This month’s Indonesia International Motor Show is also expected to help lift sales in the second half of the year.
