New vehicle sales in Indonesia fell by 18.7% to 91,393 units in July, compared with 112,473 units in the same month of last year, according to data gathered by industry association, Gaikindo.

Most of the fasting month of Ramadan fell in July this year, while there were also far fewer working days in the month compared with last year due to the annual Idul Fitri holidays.

Cumulative sales for the first seven months of the year were 2.7% higher at 733,704 units, from 714,425 units a year earlier.

A slowdown in economic growth and higher interest rates, has also affected demand for passenger vehicles in the country this year, with sales of low-cost green cars (LCGCs) offsetting weaker sales of larger models.
