New vehicle sales in Indonesia declined by just under 1% to 94,260 units in February from 95,160 units in the same month of last year, according to wholesale data compiled by industry association Gaikindo.
Last month's slight decline follows a strong rise in January, bringing year to date sales to 190,240 units – up by 4.9% from 181,425 units in the same period a year earlier despite sluggish overall domestic consumption growth.

The market continued to be supported by strong demand for the recently launched Mitsubishi Xpander. This compact MPV model has helped local Mitsubishi/Fuso distributor Krama Yudha move into second place with 36,160 sales over the two month period.
Toyota remains the biggest automotive brand in the country, with sales of 53,190 units over the two month period, with Daihatsu in third place with 34,450 sales.
Honda, the fastest growing mainstream brand for the last four years, dropped back into fourth place with just 25,470 sales followed by Suzuki with 22,630 units.
Gaikindo secretary general Kukuh Kumara in January said he did not expect the overall vehicle market to improve significantly in 2018 from last year.
He forecasttotal industry volumes to rise by less than 3% to 1.1m units, with regional elections helping to underpin demand.
