PT Astra International , Indonesia’s largest automotive company, on Thursday said its new vehicle sales, including exports to neighbouring countries, rose 3.3% in 2003 to 182,555 units compared with 176,752 cars in 2002, Dow Jones Newswires reported.

The report added that Astra sold 147,074 new vehicles in Indonesia last year, capturing nearly a 42% market share, while 354,333 new vehicles of all makes were sold in the country in 2003, compared with 318,257 in 2002.
Astra’s Toyoto Kijang minivan dominated the local market last year, with sales of 85,392 units, Dow Jones said.
According to the report, Astra International, which makes vehicles with Japan’s Toyota, Daihatsu and European companies, expects its new vehicle sales to increase between 5%-10% this year.
The company recently launched new Toyota and Daihatsu minivans with engine sizes below 1,300cc and has received forward orders for the new vehicles which begin deliveries this month, Dow Jones said.
