Chinese automaker Dongfeng Sokon Motor (DFSK), a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor and Sokon Motor, is gearing up to produce vehicles in Indonesia, according to local reports.
In partnership with a local company, DFSK began construction of a 50,000 unit/year plant in Tangerang, a satellite city just west of the capital city Jakarta, towards the end of last year.

The US$150m plant is being built on the site of the former Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Sanex which ceased production several years ago. According to the report, four conveyors have been installed at the plant already and additional manufacturing machinery is en route from China.
Trial production at the plant is scheduled to start at the end of 2015. It will produce a compact MPV range to be sold under the Sokon brand with a choice of 1.3- and 1.5-litre engines.
The company said it would export to other markets in south east Asia within four years once local content rises to around 80%.
