Volkswagen India has poached a top Toyota India executive KK Swamy plus quality control staff from the Japanese automaker.

This is seen as a major coup for the German car maker as Swamy, the Toyota unit’s former joint MD, is credited to have built Toyota’s presence in India, the Economic Times newspaper reported.

Swamy, with Toyota for over a decade, is taking over as managing director and vice president of Volkswagen India, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group.

The paper said VW, which commenced operations in India last year, had recently brought in K Takewala who headed Toyota’s quality control in India along with regional sales head Kalyan Kumar.

And the recruitment spree also attracted Sujan Roy, as head of marketing, from Honda Siel Cars India.
