A model mentioned during a ceremony to mark the start of Volkswagen’s CKD assembly in Russia is also destined for India with the news the unit there plans to launch a Polo-based sedan.

The company is also studying the possibility of setting up dedicated assembly lines for its Passat, Jetta and Touareg models, the Hindustan Times said.
“Passat, Jetta and Touareg would be obvious candidates for a dedicated assembly lines whenever numbers justify an assembly line,” Volkswagen Passenger Cars India chief Neeraj Garg said.
The Touareg is currently sold only as a direct import, which means the buyer has to import it through VW India.
The company will launch the Polo platform-based sedan in the second half 2010. While the engine specifications or the price has not been finalised, the company would be launching it as a ‘mass-market car’, Garg said.
The automaker is ramping up dealerships in India.
It has 25 outlets now but plans expansion to 40 by the end of this year.
