Volvo has officially opened its 3P truck development unit in Bangalore, India, according to press reports there. The centre will be a centre for R&D and IT to support the company’s expansion in Asia.
The choice of Bangalore location was influenced by its proximity to the Asian market and the fact there is a highly qualified English-speaking workforce in the city.
The operation will also help increase local sourcing from the region.
Separately it was reported that DaimlerChrysler will offshore some engineering operations to its Bangalore facility. Speaking at the launch of the S-Class and M-Class in India, a Mercedes executive said that there is an opportunity to conduct more R&D in India, particularly in the area of computation analysis.
