Volkswagen India said its car export volumes have hit the 50,000 mark and it now ships cars to 32 nations on three continents.
The major export break for the company – which began exports from its Pune facility in 2011 – came when the Indian Vento successfully went to Mexico in October 2013, The Times of India reported.

Volkswagen India said: “[We have] been able to ramp up the export volumes and in just two and a half years, 50,000 cars have been shipped to various countries. Originally developed for the Indian market, Vento became an instant success in the sedan segment in Mexico as it replaced the Jetta Classico. This year, almost every third car manufactured at the Volkswagen Pune plant will be shipped to Mexico.”
Volkswagen India’s MD and president, Mahesh Kodumudi, said: “Not only does this success help us in tackling the volatilities in the domestic market, but it also strengthens our export leg of the business in a sustainable way. With the success of our highest quality cars in this key market, we can further increase our scope of export to more countries in the near future.”
The Polo produced in Chakan is also being shipped to other countries. In addition to assembled vehicles, the company also exports Vento and Polo knocked-down kits to Malaysia where they are assembled and sold, The Times of India said.
