ARAI is a R&D facility and apex certification body established to meet the testing needs of India’s automobile manufacturers and component industries.
The new rig will be the only one of its kind in India and will be deployed in ARAI’s structural dynamics lab (SDL), which provides testing services to both ground vehicle and component manufacturers.
The system will enable ARAI to conduct durability and fatigue tests on full motorcycles, as well as evaluate four-wheel vehicle suspension systems. It also provides a tool for use in conducting ride comfort studies, analysing operating deflection shapes (ODS), and performing vibration tests.
The mechanical simulator consists of two spindle-mounted fixtures that can be configured to input vertical, lateral and longitudinal forces through both front and rear axles for 2-wheel vehicle tests, or through a single axle for 4-wheel vehicle tests. The system uses software that performs multi-channel, real-time simulation based on force and motion data captured on the road or test track.
