Toyota Kirloskar Motor employees have returned to work at two plants, their union said.

Union general secretary R Satish told Press Trust of India: “We have resumed work as per the orders of [the] Karnataka government.”

About 2,000 employees reported for a first shift at 5:45 am; the second shift started as normal at 2:45 pm Tuesday (22 April).

The company confirmed the news saying all workers “have come to work as planned”.

Satish added the union would continue to negotiate with management over a pay rise and the suspension of 30 workers, plus other issues.

The automaker – a joint venture between Toyota Motor and a local company – said last week it would pay workers an extra INR3,100 a month; not the INR8,000 they have demanded.
