The new Indica has a pronounced grille and distinctive ‘wide-eyed’ headlamps. Muscular wheel arches merge into contoured surfaces giving a sporty look to the vehicle. The new car has a wheelbase of 2,470 mm (up 70mm) and is 120mm longer at 3,795mm.
The new car will be launched towards the end of this year and, initially will be sold alongside the earlier model.
It will offer the choice of a new 1.3 litre ‘Quadra-Jet’ common rail direct injection diesel engine or a 1.2 litre ‘Safire’ MPFIVVT petrol unit which will be manufactured at the new Tata-Fiat joint venture plant at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra, with existing Tata powertrains.
Having lost ground to SUV and MUV manufacturers in a territory which was once exclusively dominated by the Sumo, Tata has unveiled the redesigned, Sumo Grande with clean, chiseled looks complemented by large clear headlamps and a cut-away air dam at the front. The spare wheel is now tucked below the body.
With three rows of seating, the Sumo Grande has a wheel base of 2,550mm compared to the existing 2,400mm. At its heart is a new 2.2-litre direct injection common rail (DICOR) engine with variable geometry turbo charger.
The Sumo Grande will be available in three variants with two seating configurations from the first week of February.
