Tata Motors has reported that sales in August were almost unchanged overall on last year, despite an 8% rise in exports to 5,093 units, due to sluggish market conditions and higher interest rates.
Sales in August dropped marginally to 45,144 vehicles compared with 45,325 units sold in August 2006. Cumulative sales from January to August also declined 0.8% year-on-year to 214,603 units.
In the commercial vehicle segment, Tata said it sold 23,431 units, up 1.8% from the same month last year. However, in the passenger vehicles segment, sales declined by 5% to 16,620 units in August.
