Tata Motors has cut its workforce at its Pantnagar plant in India in response to falling domestic demand for its commercial vehicles.

Workforce at the plant, which makes the Ace light truck, was cut by 1,208 from 5,838 people, or around 21%, in the April-June 2013 quarter, according to employee contribution records released to the local media by Provident Fund.

Other automotive plants in the Tata group have also cut their headcount in the same quarter but by a more marginal 2% on average, according to the report.
