Skoda Auto India is bullish over the Indian market and planning to launch its own entry level small car in the next couple of years.

“We are planning to launch an entry level small car in the price range of INR300,000 to INR500,000 (IS$6,565-$11,000) by 2013 in India,” sales and marketing chief Thomas Kuehl told just-auto.

The current entry-level Fabia sold around 6,800 units of Skoda India’s 20,400-uni 2010 tally.

Kuehl said the car would be sold with petrol and diesel engines and, like the Fabia, be built in India with about 70% local content at the Chaken plant.

Skoda sold 10,400 units in the Jan-April period of 2011.

“We are growing at the rate of 60% year on year,” Kuehl said.

The automaker plans to start selling the Laura S (Octavia) in August followed by an “entry level limousine in the C segment” [likely a Fabia sedan]  in the first quarter of 2012.
