Skoda has relaunched the Octavia in India, three years after it was discontinued, though now pricing the car at a premium compared with its predecessor.

The Octavia was launched in India in 2001 and discontinued in 2010, after sales of 45,000 units. Having launched the new model, the company told the Times of India it would phase out the Laura premium sedan in India.

The launch of a compact car model locally is under consideration.

The company wants to improve aftersales service and widen its product line in India. “We would also like to work on the back-end of operations as part of our long-term strategy in the country,” Skoda Auto India MD Sudhir Rao said.

The company is developing internal resources that will enable it to develop products, including a small car, that are relevant to India and carry Skoda credentials, Rao told the Times of India.
