The INR14bn ($330m) plant at Talegaon, in the state of Maharashtra, will have an initial capacity of 140,000 vehicles a year, which will increase the automaker’s total capacity in India to 225,000 vehicles a year. GM sold 60,032 vehicles in India in 2007, up 74% year on year.
It makes six models of the GM Daewoo-designed Chevrolet range at an older factory in Gujarat state with capacity of 85,000 units a year. It also imports the Captiva SUV from Korea and has a technical centre in Bangalore.
