Both models have been developed in technical collaboration with the Taiwan-based affiliate of Mitsubishi – China Motor Corporation. They are powered by two-litre diesel engines. While the Sigma is a seven-seat passenger carrier model which the company believes will win conquest customers from rivals such as the Tata Sumo and Mahindra Bolero, the Roadstar – available only in white – is a commercial vehicle aimed at merchants and transporters, especially in areas where three-wheelers are not allowed on highways.
Premier Automobiles Ltd has already appointed 24 dealers in western and southern India and will roll out the vehicles across the country soon. The company used to manufacture the Premier 118 NE (based on a 1970s Fiat model) and other Fiat models such as the Palio, Uno and Siena at its Mumbai facility some years ago.
The company has plans to sell 10,000 vehicles in this calendar year.
