Bajaj Auto, Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Eicher Motors will run a pilot project using different blends of hydrogen, raning from 12 to 30% in different vehicles, reported The Economic Times.


The first car to be tested with the new fuel will be a three-wheeler from Bajaj Auto.


The project is a joint initiative of the ministry of new and renewable energy along with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ (Siam). It will be the first time that hydrogen is used as an automotive fuel in India.


The tests will be conducted at an IOC facility at Faridabad in Haryana. They are expected to be completed by mid-2008.
