Nissan will launch its entry-level small car, developed in partnership with Ashok Leyland, in India during 2014.

The Economic Times of India quoted Nissan Motor EVP Andy Palmer as saying: “We are working on multiple options for entry-level vehicles for India. One is being developed with Ashok Leyland. This car will be launched around 2014.”

Palmer said the car would be in the INR200,000-INR400,000 (US$3,986-$7,972) price range in India, a highly competitive and volume driven segment. He did not reveal further details.

Ashok Leyland had said earlier it did not have plans to enter the passenger car market in India and would focus only on commercial vehicles with Nissan.
