A Nissan spokesperson has told an Indian daily that its first car for the Datsun brand will be priced under INR400,000 (US$7,695).
The firm says it will introduce two cars under the Datsun brand in India, Indonesia and Russia by 2014 with another model to follow. Nissan intends to introduce 10 new models in India by 2016, including the Datsun brand.

A Nissan India spokesperson told the Financial Express: “Specifically, in India, our core offer will be priced below INR400,000. For Indonesia, less than US$10,000. For Russia, the core offer will be below RUB400,000 (US$12,752).”
The spokesperson added: “Outside India, the Renault-Nissan Alliance is addressing ‘price-entry’ segments in many emerging economies, such as Indonesia, China and Russia.”
Nissan’s Chinese JV with Dongfeng has already introduced two vehicles under the Venucia brand, while the partnership between Renault-Nissan and AvtoVAZ in Russia is moving forward for the launch of vehicles under the Datsun brand.
Nissan announced the revival of Datsun in March 2012. The first model is to be manufactured at an expanded Cikampek plant in Indonesia during 2014. While the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant is expected to be the build location for India, it is not yet known which plant will be used for Russia: it could be either Nissan’s own facility or else Renault’s plant in Moscow or the AvtoVAZ works in Togliatti.

In May 2012, Renault-Nissan’s Carlos Ghosn told reporters that Datsun vehicles would eventually become available in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
