India’s car sales rose by 5.1% over year-ago levels in June to 42,343 units according to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). There were strong sales performances by a number of manufacturers including Tata, Fiat, Hyundai and Honda Siel.

However, car sales during the April-June quarter were down by 7.5% over year-ago levels.
Commercial vehicles, a key indicator of economic growth, recorded sales of 14,697 units in June, 29% ahead of last year.
