Maruti Suzuki said that its volume in the domestic A2 segment grew by 38.3%.  In the A3 segment the sales volume grew 51.5% during the month as compared to sales in July 2008. It was the highest ever A-3 segment sales for the company, a statement said.

“During the month the company crossed the milestone of 50,000 export units for A star [Alto; also built as the Nissan Pixo], which was introduced internationally in January 2009,” the company said.

In late July, the company said that its first quarter profits rose a healthy 25.3% to INR5.83bn (US$120m) in the three months to 30 June.

Revenue grew 34% during the first quarter of fiscal 2009/10 to INR63.4bn as vehicle unit sales climbed almost 18% to 226,729.

Maruti attributed its gains to strong volume growth in both domestic and export markets.
