Maruti Suzuki India on Friday said it had produced a record 500,000 K-series engines in less than 23 months. The first was manufactured in October 2008.

The company has installed capacity of 500,000 such engines annually. To meet growing demand, Maruti it recently recently announced to an additional 200,000 engines by 2012.
The K-series engines are available on seven Suzuki car models and also fitted to the A-Star/Alto-based Pixo built on an OEM basis for Nissan Motor.
Managing director and CEO Shinzo Nakanishi said: “Introduction of K-series engine in India is an example of Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to take the engine technology in India to the next level.”
India’s top-selling automaker produces two types of K-series engines – three cylinder 998cc and I4 1.2 litre – in the Gurgaon plant. Maruti Suzuki engineers worked as part of parent Suzuki Motor’s rngine design team to design, calibrate and test the engine line in India and Japan.
