Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced its XUV500 SUV in Chile.

The model was launched in India and South Africa in October 2011. It was developed in Chennai and, the automaker said, is one of the bestselling SUVs in India, selling over 35,000 units within a year of its launch. It is also sold in Nepal and Italy.

The Chile launch will be followed by Brazil, Paraguay, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.

The Chilean distributor is Automotores Fortaleza which already sells Mahindra and Genio pick-ups and the Scorpio SUV.

XUV500 competitors include the Chevrolet Captiva, Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.
