According to the Economic Times of India, the joint venture already has orders to supply Tata Motors, motorcycle maker Bajaj Auto and Fiat in India.

The systems will be Euro III and Euro IV-compliant and, according to Lumax group chairman DK Jain, the joint venture will be the first manufacturer in India to produce such systems.

A plant will be set up in the Bajaj Auto supplier park at Chakan to start series production in 2009. Production in the meantime will start at an existing Lumax group plant. Initially, the company will produce intake systems for Fiat.

Cornaglia already supplies Fiat in Turin with emission systems for its 1.3 and 1.6 litre engines. The joint venture is expected to supply new models that will go into production in India next year. In future, Fiat engines are expected to be used by Tata, GM and Maruti Suzuki, providing further opportunities for the joint venture.

It is also expected to supply the complete vehicle emission system for Bajaj Auto’s four wheeler and for Tata’s commercial vehicles. The redesigned Tata Indica small hatchback car, code named X1, is expected to have an intake system from the Italian company.
