India's auto industry produced 10,900,264 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycles in fiscal April-August 2016, up 11.22% on the 9,800,197 made in the same period last year.

Passenger vehicle sales grew by 10.74% in April-August 2016. Passenger cars, utility vehicles and vans grew by 3.01%, 40.74% and 6.67% respectively.

The commercial vehicles segment registered growth of 7.97%. Medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCVs) registered growth of 4.41% and light commercial vehicles grew by 10.65%.

Three wheelers sales grew 15.44%. Passenger and goods carrier sales grew by 15.12% and 16.98% respectively.

Two wheelers sales registered a growth of 16.51%.

Exports

In April-August 2016, overall automobile exports declined by 11.16%. While Passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles exports registered a growth of 13.47% and 8.53%, exports of three wheelers and two wheelers declined by 39.31% and 12.67% respectively in April-August 2016 over April-August 2015.

Local industry group SIAM said the decline in heavy truck sales was a concern.
