Hyundai chairman Chung Mong-koo reportedly said the company plans to produce 600,000 vehicles a year for the domestic market and for export to Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.


Hyundai plans to sell 280,000 cars in India this year and 600,000 in 2008.


The automaker is building a second plant alongside its first in Irrunattukottia, near Chennai. This is due to come on-stream in 2007 with capacity for 300,000 units, up from the originally announced 150,000.


Reuters noted that that Hyundai is also expanding its existing plant from 280,000 units now to 300,000 next year.


Earlier plans called for Indian sales of 400,000 units by 2010.
