Hyundai Motor India (HMI) is on course to double exports this fiscal year, sales and marketing chief Arvind Saxena said as the automaker launched a new version of the i10 with 1.2 litre engine built at its Chennai plant.

The new engine can meet Euro V emission standards.

Exports last fiscal year of about 116,000 cars were seen virtually doubling to 230,000 this year. HMI exports to about 95 countries in the European Union, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and Asia. About 45% of output goes abroad. Export models are the Santro (sold as the Atos Prime in India), i10, Getz and Accent.

A second plant in Chennai has boosted capacity to 600,000 units a year. HMI plans to sell 8-9,000 of the 1.2-litre i10 a month in India – 240,000 a year.
