The Business Standard reports that Honda is planning to launch its small SUV model – the C-RV – onto the Indian market. Initially, Honda will import completely built-up (CBU) units but plans to switch to local assembly when conditions are right.

Honda sees an opportunity for the C-RV as a more affordable SUV for the Indian market, able to develop sales beneath larger premium SUVs recently launched in India, such as the Mitsubishi Pajero.
The C-RV could also take sales from C and D segment saloon cars, where it will be competing in price terms.
A spokesman for Honda Siel told the Business Standard that the C-RV will be marketed as a ‘truly city drive vehicle’ unlike other, larger SUVs which emphasise high power and ability to carry large loads over long distances, including difficult terrain.
