General Motors India is to hire up to 1,000 people by the end of this year in order to strengthen its engineering design capabilities and to meet rising local demand for its cars, the Wall Street Journal reported.

GM India would hire 150-200 engineers at its Bangalore powertrain centre and about 800 at its two factories in India, the report added.
